Hin­uera’s fine start at in­ter­club

The Hin­uera flag has be­ing fly­ing high over the past two weeks.

Waikato In­ter­club started on Oc­to­ber 15 and the Hin­uera Premier A Men’s team won five out of six games.

They had a clean sweep of Toko­roa and dropped a game against Pu­taruru to lead the over­all com­pe­ti­tion by six points.

The Premier B Men’s team won 7 out of 9 games. They dropped a game against Sta­dium and Frank­ton Junc­tion, but ended with a clean sweep against Te Awa­mutu. They sit in sec­ond spot with 21 points only 4 points be­hind Rewa.

Un­for­tu­nately the Premier A Ladies team had a bye in the first round and the sec­ond round was not fin­ished due to rain.

The sec­ond and third days of the Waikato In­ter­club is sched­uled for Oc­to­ber 19 and 30.

The Hin­uera Club held an Open Mens Fours tour­na­ment last Thurs­day. The tour­na­ment spon­sored by Super Liquor had 12 teams com­pet­ing for prizes. The win­ning team with four wins was a lo­cal team com­pris­ing of Ger­ard Slat­tery, Paul Casey Snr, John Set­tle and Adrian De Haas. Run­ners up were an­other lo­cal team Bruce Milne, Kevin Smith, Graeme Mor­gan & Bill Cor­bett.

On Labour Week­end, Hin­uera had four en­tries in the first Waikato Cham­pi­onship of the sea­son, the Mixed 2x4x2 Pairs. After qual­i­fy­ing on Satur­day there were two Hin­uera teams re­main- ing with post sec­tion play tak­ing them to their home green.

Bruce Milne and Bev Cor­bett won their first against Shirley Lynch and Mike Wade (Frank­ton Junc­tion) but were knocked out by the Raglan com­bi­na­tion of Ross Turner and Eileen Stephens in the quar­ter fi­nals. De­fend­ing Cham­pi­ons Kevin Smith and Deb­bie White won their first game against Trevor and Rose Har­ris (Hill­crest) but lost their semi fi­nal en­counter against the Toko­roa com­bi­na­tion of Nev Ris­bridge and Carol Cox.

The Fi­nal was be­tween Ris­bridge/Cox and the com­pos­ite pair of NZ un­der 18 Player of the Year Ash­leigh Jef­f­coat and NZ De­vel­op­ment Team Mem­ber Jesse Rus­sell. The Toko­roa pair scored a 4 on the very last end to take the win by 1 shot.

Hin­uera Mem­ber Chen Naude won Mata­mata Col­lege’s Most Per­se­ver­ing Sport­man award re­cently. Chen joined the Club a cou­ple of sea­sons ago and has im­proved his game markedly over the 12 months.
