Matamata Chronicle - - Your Paper, Your Place -

This week we present a special feature looking back on 50 years of the Matamata Chronicle. It’s been a great privilege to hear stories from past editors and reporters, recounting their experiences of the paper. Technology has certainly changed the way we work but in some cases the issues faced by the community remain the same. Those include stories around law and order, local government, community organisations as well as events and sports. We’re lucky to have copies of previous Chronicle newspapers in the back of our office and they make for fascinating reading. Over the next year reporter Rexine Hawes will be delving into those back copies to bring you some of the more interesting stories of years gone by, as part of our news series called Back In The Day. For now we hope you enjoy reading our special 50th birthday feature on pages 18 to 27 and we look forward to serving your community for many years to come.
