Christmas open at Matamata
On a glorious sunny day the Matamata Bowling Club held its Christmas Open three bowls triples tournament.
We invited 14 teams from Tokoroa (2); Rewa (2), and one each from Arapuni, Morrinsville Club and Morrinsville RSA; six Matamata club teams and one from our sponsor Matamata Glass & Joinery who we are grateful for continuing to sponsor a popular day.
Winners were the Morrinsville team of S.Mills, W.Chamberlain and M.Pene with four wins, 24 Ends and 49 points. Runners up were the Matamata team of Rita Donderwinkel, Mark Patterson and Norman Barron also with four wins, 22 ends and 35 points.
In third place was the Tokoroa team of H.Frost, W.Boyd and C.Wilson with three wins, 23 ends and 37 points. Fourth place to the Matamata team of Ada Steverson, Ken Cowley and Frances Canty with three wins, 20 ends and 36 points.

Two more championships have been completed, Triples Ladies: Champion team of Ada Steverson with Zelda Clements and Coral Daisley. Runner up team is Rita Donderwinkel, Pat le Prou and Jan Wills. received meat
The final was a thriller with points leading changing from end to end, Rita was leading at end 17 by one then losing two points on the last end (14 to 15).
Mens champion team iss George Theobald with John Best and Bruce Stewart; runner ups are Tony Donderwinkel with Mark Patterson and Stu Steverson.
George lost his first game and then went on to win the next three.
In the ladies pairs was the champion team of Rita Donderwinkel with Lyn Lopez.
This was a reverse final game from the triples being that Rita won by one point from runners up of Ada Steverson with Coreal Daisley
The champs for the men was the team of George Theobald with John Best, who won all their games. Runners up were Tony Donderwinkel and Stu Steverson.
There was an error in the previous report of the champion fours ladies winners, the correct winners were Ada Steverson with Zelda Clements, Beth Vosper and Coral Daisley with the runnersup being Rita Donderwinkel, Lyn Lopez, Elaine James and Frances Canty.
