Touch­ing hearts with cook­ies

In­ner Wheel Mata­mata’s Christ­mas Cookie Cheer project has be­come an an­nual favourite for club mem­bers.

In­sti­gated four years ago by then mem­ber Jackie Gi­eschen, the project in­volves club mem­bers bak­ing a wide va­ri­ety of cook­ies, and then de­liv­er­ing them to those in town for whom Christ­mas may be less than fes­tive.

Ear­lier this month, club mem­bers de­liv­ered al­most 100 bags of cook­ies round town, cer­tainly ful­fill­ing this year’s IW in­ter­na­tional theme, Touch a Heart.

Com­mu­nity ser­vice plays a ma­jor role in In­ner Wheel and, in Au­gust, mem­bers honed their sort­ing, retailing and rag-cut­ting skills when they turned out to as­sist Vic­tim Sup­port raise much­needed funds in Mata­mata’s Op Shop.

Funds raised through siz­zling sausages at the monthly Mata­mata Mar­ket sup­ported Mata­mata St John and school camp fees for in­ter­me­di­ate-age young­sters.

Mem­bers also cooked and baked for the army of tradies and sup­port­ers in­volved in Novem­ber’s build­ing project to pro­vide a bed­room for Tamzyn Twi­dle.
