Passing along her passion for painting
Patricia Win says it’s the beauty of nature, with its array of colours and textures, that inspires her.
The artist is passionate about art and is hosting courses where she can pass on her passion in a home-based classroom environment.
Originally from Matamata, Win moved away from the area some years ago and has recently returned.
She moved back to the area from Katikati, where she had been teaching art from her home. Now, she is keen to pass on her knowledge to the Matamata community.
The beginners course, with spaces for eight students, runs for 17-weeks. There are subsequent 20-week courses available covering wildlife, landscapes, portraits, seascapes and flowers. Each stage advances in difficulty. Win says she loves art and is equally as passionate about teaching.
Many of her past students had never had an introduction to painting other than a keen curiosity and it’s this curiosity that she loves to nurture.
‘‘I enjoy teaching and passing on whatever the skill is. I am detail-minded and there is a specific style of teaching that comes with realistic style painting.
‘‘A lot (of students) show real skill, some right from the beginning, others have difficulty for some time and suddenly they just take off. I love to see that, I love to see the success of the students.
‘‘After three years when we have covered every different type of subject, it’s neat for me to see them at the stage where they don’t need me anymore, they can critique themselves and they know what they have done wrong and how to put it right.’’
Some of her past students have moved on to sell their work in exhibitions, which Patricia says always gives her such a great feeling.
The course begins on February 27, with one three hour class per week. People need to register by Friday, February 24 at the latest. Contact Patricia on 888 8785.
