Mata­mata se­cures Wil­son Tro­phy

CO­MAG Mata­mata Col­lege 1st XV de­feated St Paul’s 21 to 7 on Thurs­day evening to re­main sec­ond on the ta­ble.

The win se­cured the Wil­son Tro­phy which has been played for be­tween Mata­mata and St Paul’s since 1981.

Mata­mata had to work hard for all of their points as St Paul’s de­fended well. Try scor­ers were Caine Ho­hepa, Joel Waru and Matt Jef­f­coat.

All three tries were con­verted by Kieran Holdsworth.

Next Satur­day sees the last game of the first round and Mata­mata take on HBHS in a top of the ta­ble clash with the Tri­color Tro­phy also up for grabs.

Kick­off is at 11am at Mata­mata Col­lege.

The 2nd XV had a com­fort­able win against Mor­rinsville 2nd XV 48 points to 0. Try scor­ers were Con­ner Stoner (2), Max Lang­don, Jor­dan Ruck, Nick Allen, Reon McMoses and Ai­den Rans­ley. Ge­orge Sa­muels and Ri­ley Pratt both con­verted two tries each.

The Un­der 15s beat HBHS 34 to 7. Try scor­ers were Cooper Welling­ton (2), Brodie Hodge, Brad Rum­ble, Kadaphi King and Ezrah Law­son. Matt O’Brien and Jake Smythe kicked a con­ver­sion each.

The Un­der 14s trav­elled to Te Kuiti and came away with a win by 33 points to 19. Try scor­ers were Levi Web­ber (2), Kiowa Dil­loway, Liam Wil­liams and Ethan Gibbs. Haimoana Davis con­verted four of the tries. The girls team lost to Toko­roa, but the Mata­mata team never gave up. Re­nee Withers, Mon­tanah Gra­ham, Chelsea Bur­dan and Kate Smit­stra all had good games.
