Matamata Chronicle

FROM THE NEWS DESK

-

This week we launch our series, Women in Sport. It comes after research from Sport Waikato and Sport New Zealand showed fewer women were becoming active later on in life. The research reports on the barriers stopping women from entering sport and what could be done to remove those barriers. We’ve interviewed the captain of the Matamata Swifts Ladies team, Kerrie Cox, to see if that research matches her own experience, and the experiences of other women in sport. We’re keen to hear from other women involved in sport to talk about how difficult, or easy, they think it is to be active later on in life. In other stories, we continue to bring you police reports to monitor crime in the area, which have proved popular among readers. We also publish the reports on our Neighbourly.co.nz page where the information can be shared wider. Rexine Hawes and Janine Barrett have also worked hard to bring you this year’s Daffodil Day feature on pages 17 to 19.
