Batsmen lead for Hinuera

Reid & Harrison Hinuera Premier As travelled to Otorohanga on Saturday for their second match of the season in the combined Hamilton/Waikato Valley Premier 50 over competitio­n.

Batting first in bleak windy conditions, Hinuera scored 231 runs being all out on the second ball of the 50th over.

Girvacques De Jager and Alan Tappin combined in a 78 run 4th wicket partnershi­p with De Jager scoring 81 with 7 fours and 5 massive sixes.

Mitchell Green, David Scholtz and Jason Fursdon also chipped in with good supporting innings while De Jager was blasting away.

Other than a 66 run 3rd wicket partnershi­p, Otorohanga lost regular wickets and were finally dismissed in the 40th over for 143.

Girvacques De Jager broke the third wicket partnershi­p and then he captured two further two quick wickets.

Spinners Ian Marshall and Blake Robinson claimed the last five wickets between them with Matamata College student Robinson finishing with 3/12 and club stalwart Marshall’s figures being 2/18.

Reid & Harrison Hinuera lead Pool 1 of the combined competitio­n with eight points over Marist Suburbs who also have eight points with two wins but have a lower net run rate.

This Saturday, Reid & Harrison Hinuera As are playing at home against Hamilton Boys’ High School 1st XI.

The Waikato Valley B grade competitio­n also starts on Saturday with Hinuera Bs travelling away to Whangamata and Matamata College 1st XI also having an away game at Te Kauwhata against Waikare.
