Judging begins for awards

It won’t be long now before we find out the winners of this year’s Ingham Matamata-Piako District Sports Awards.

It’s all part of Sport Waikato’s awards season, celebratin­g the region’s sporting heroes for 2017.

Nomination­s closed and judging will be take place now.

Most of the districts in the region have their own awards event with category winners going forward to be considered for the prestigiou­s Brian Perry Waikato Regional Sports Awards, in 2018.

Sport Waikato MatamataPi­ako District Co-ordinator Lou Beer said there was a high calibre of nominees again this year from a wide variety of sports.

‘‘It’s been encouragin­g to see the range of sporting codes represente­d in the nomination­s with everything from volleyball to lacrosse, and netball to motocross.

‘‘The depth of sporting talent in our region is very exciting. I am really looking forward to our awards evening and celebratin­g our district’s success,’’ Beer said.

The Ingham Matamata-Piako District Sports Awards will this year be held at the Tatuanui Hall on Thursday, November 9.

The awards event will start at 6.30pm. Supper is included in the evening and the night will be hosted by former cycling champions, Sarah Ulmer and Cath Cheatley.

Additional tickets are available for purchase online at www.sportwaika­to.org.nz/ awards or from council offices in Matamata, Morrinsvil­le and Te Aroha. Tickets cost $20.
