Creating wow factor for Fashion in the Field

MATAMATA BREEDERS’ STAKES DAY

- LAWRENCE GULLERY

A well-balanced outfit with artistic flair could help you stand out from the rest at this year’s Fashion in the Field at the J. Swap Contractors Ltd Matamata Breeders’ Stakes Day.

Jane Pike, owner of Jane’s Fashion and Accessories in Matamata, will again sponsor the Avant Garde section of the Fashion in the Field this year.

She said it was an innovative category where competitors experiment with ideas and bring an inventive, edgy take on fashion. In this category, judges will be looking for ‘‘an outfit with a difference’’.

‘‘I think it’s important to get the balance right in any outfit. That’s a balance between dress, shoes and hat, something that can combine to provide that wow factor, to grab the judge’s attention.

‘‘Certainly having an artist flair helps.’’

Belinda Green won the Avant Garde category in 2017 and went on to be selected as the Tuscany Road Supreme Winner.

Pike said Green’s outfit stood out because of its colour selection, her fascinator which matched the overall look.

Pike said Fashion in the Field events were fun and exciting for people to take part spectators to enjoy.

It’s where outfits were judged on appearance, including balance of dress, headwear, shoes and accessories, personal grooming and ‘‘that bit of wow that catches judges attention’’.

Jane’s Fashion and Accessories stocked complete outfit options, including hats, fascinators, handbags and dresses for the occasion.

‘‘We are willing to help them dress if they are not sure how to go about it.’’

Pike said many people also enjoy the challenge of making their own outfits for the Fashion in the Field.

‘‘I can see they definitely enjoy that challenge and the fun of it all. Showcasing your special outfit on raceday is special.’’

Visitors to the J. Swap Contractors Ltd Matamata Breeders’ Stakes Day will also have a chance to win two major prizes, including a 52-inch Panasonic Big Screen Television sponsored by Panasonic and Tonezone, and a 4x4 XLT Ford Ranger supplied by Fairview Motors

There are a number of stations around the racecourse which will have a set of boxes, numbered to represent each horse in the Group 2 J.Swap Contractors Ltd in or for Breeders’ Stakes. Punters write their name, email and phone number on the back of their ticket. The ticket is put into the box of the horse they think will win. The boxes of the winning horse will be collected and one ticket will be drawn.

The winner will be announced over a loudspeaker and they will have 10 minutes to claim the television prize in the birdcage. The winner will then draw an envelope, from one to 100, to win the Ford Ranger valued at $57,000.00.
