SUMMER CUP

-

Last Saturday saw the culmination of Matamata Golf Club’s first big competition, the Summer Cup. Former Matamata resident Tim Neil won the title closely followed by Ian Taylor with Brent Stewart narrowly beaten into third place. The opening round of pennant golf was held last weekend as well as the Prebble Cup competition. The pennants team was beaten by one match while the Prebble Cup team lead by Bill ‘‘Rudder’’ Wilson carried the day against Kawhia at the Narrows course. With all the rain, the course is in great condition. With opening day only two weeks away, the fairways and greens will be in great shape so grab the bag and join the fun. Tee off time this Saturday is 9.30am with improved prizes. The big jackpot is proving elusive with no golfer yet to crack the two points per hole for the full round. Redoubt voucher went to Tim Neil with a 67 nett, Robert Harris vouchers to Derek lugton, 68 nett and Jo Comer 69 nett, followed by Armarjit Ghag and Reece Cole both with 69 nett. Twos went to Rob Colley, Bryan Carnegie. Sen Sushi, for closet to the pin, went to Milton James.
