FILTERED BREW IS BEST

-

The UN World Food Program estimates that 265 million people could be pushed to the brink of starvation by year’s end — 130 million more than expected before the pandemic.

Coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide and the most frequently used stimulant. Some 30 years ago, Professor Dag S. Thelle discovered that drinking coffee was linked with raised cholesterol to such an extent that it was likely to have detrimental consequences for heart health. A new study led by Professor Thelle and a team at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden have gone on to examine the links between coffee brewing methods and risks of heart attacks and death. The researchers have concluded that filtered brew is safest. “Unfiltered coffee contains substances which increase blood cholesterol. Using a filter removes these and makes heart attacks and premature death less likely,” said Professor Thelle. The good news for coffee drinkers is that overall, coffee drinking was not a dangerous habit. In fact, drinking filtered coffee was safer than no coffee at all.
