Cassidy wins Japanese crown

-

Kiwi driver Nick Cassidy has secured the Japan Formula 3 title after a perfect race weekend at Sugo on October 18.

The Aucklander, already a veteran three-times New Zealand Grand Prix winner, wasn’t fazed by the pressure of being tied on points with teammate Kenta Yamashita heading into the round, and dominated the weekend with two pole positions, two race wins and two fastest laps to take maximum points.

Qualifying was incredibly close with just 0.004 between P1 and P2 in the first session and 0.003 in the second.

Cassidy has high praise for his engineers with the Petronas Team TOM’s camp who had the car dialled in exactly to the driver’s preference.

“We simply had incredible speed this weekend, both races ran perfectly for me with good weather conditions both days, my best starts of the year and the ability to push the car with confidence and build a healthy gap,” said Cassidy,

“Obviously coming into the weekend there was a lot at stake, and naturally a high pressure environment. I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out though, scoring a perfect weekend. I really want to thank everyone who has offered the support to get me here and of course, the guy’s and girl’s at TOM’S for the opportunity this year. And now we look forward to Macau where we will put our best foot forward together as Japanese Champions!”

Netting this result establishes Cassidy as a formidable contender and one to watch in the Macau Grand Prix on November 13-16, the event is the jewel in the crown of Formula 3 racing and on the back of his past podium finish and his recent Japan F3 success he heads into the event as one of the favourites.
