-

Continental Australia has secured the ongoing employment of approximately 50 highly skilled engineering employees who will continue to work on future platforms for products that will be manufactured at various Continental locations overseas after vehicle OEM manufacturing ends in Australia in 2017.

The recent decision from the German parent company has ended future uncertainty for the local engineering team and has even given hope for future expansion. The company sees the opportunity for the engineering team to grow, particularly in the area of software in line with increasing complexity of products.

Using advanced technologies in line with automotive human machine interface (HMI) innovations, Continental provides a comprehensive product portfolio and integrated solutions.

They include large displays with enhanced graphic performance and seamless surfaces, displays with optical bonding and capacitive touch, head-up displays, haptic controls and monitoring cameras. These futuristic advances minimise the driver’s workload with natural interaction, reducing distraction, and play a key role in safety and automated driving in the car of the future.

The Australian operation is recognised as one of Continental’s most experienced and cost effective design centres of leading-edge vehicle systems and electronic components and has played a key role in the development of Australia’s reputation as a world-class supplier of engineering expertise and competence in design for manufacture.

Operating within the Business Unit ‘Instrumentation & Driver HMI’ and with a major focus on new and innovative technologies, Continental continues to expand solutions for the automotive industry.

The local engineering team is joined by the ongoing presence of the Continental Tyre Division in Australia which continues to rapidly grow its market share capitalising on an increasing number of Original Equipment vehicle fitments, strong tyre retailer relationships and a commitment to improving the safety of vehicles driven on Australian roads.

The Continental Aftermarket segment continues to distribute the market leading VDO brand of products to key commercial and automotive companies throughout New Zealand and Australia.

By securing the employment of their highly skilled engineers and with the potential for further growth, Continental Australia is confident of a long term future for this innovative company.
