Con­ti­nen­tal jobs safe

Con­ti­nen­tal Aus­tralia has se­cured the on­go­ing em­ploy­ment of ap­prox­i­mately 50 highly skilled engi­neer­ing employees who will con­tinue to work on fu­ture plat­forms for prod­ucts that will be man­u­fac­tured at var­i­ous Con­ti­nen­tal lo­ca­tions over­seas af­ter ve­hi­cle OEM man­u­fac­tur­ing ends in Aus­tralia in 2017.

The re­cent de­ci­sion from the Ger­man par­ent com­pany has ended fu­ture un­cer­tainty for the lo­cal engi­neer­ing team and has even given hope for fu­ture ex­pan­sion. The com­pany sees the op­por­tu­nity for the engi­neer­ing team to grow, par­tic­u­larly in the area of soft­ware in line with in­creas­ing com­plex­ity of prod­ucts.

Us­ing ad­vanced tech­nolo­gies in line with au­to­mo­tive hu­man ma­chine in­ter­face (HMI) in­no­va­tions, Con­ti­nen­tal pro­vides a com­pre­hen­sive prod­uct port­fo­lio and in­te­grated so­lu­tions.

They in­clude large dis­plays with en­hanced graphic per­for­mance and seam­less sur­faces, dis­plays with op­ti­cal bond­ing and ca­pac­i­tive touch, head-up dis­plays, hap­tic con­trols and mon­i­tor­ing cam­eras. Th­ese fu­tur­is­tic ad­vances min­imise the driver’s work­load with nat­u­ral in­ter­ac­tion, re­duc­ing dis­trac­tion, and play a key role in safety and au­to­mated driv­ing in the car of the fu­ture.

The Aus­tralian op­er­a­tion is recog­nised as one of Con­ti­nen­tal’s most ex­pe­ri­enced and cost ef­fec­tive de­sign cen­tres of lead­ing-edge ve­hi­cle sys­tems and elec­tronic com­po­nents and has played a key role in the de­vel­op­ment of Aus­tralia’s rep­u­ta­tion as a world-class sup­plier of engi­neer­ing ex­per­tise and com­pe­tence in de­sign for man­u­fac­ture.

Op­er­at­ing within the Busi­ness Unit ‘In­stru­men­ta­tion & Driver HMI’ and with a ma­jor fo­cus on new and in­no­va­tive tech­nolo­gies, Con­ti­nen­tal con­tin­ues to ex­pand so­lu­tions for the au­to­mo­tive in­dus­try.

The lo­cal engi­neer­ing team is joined by the on­go­ing pres­ence of the Con­ti­nen­tal Tyre Di­vi­sion in Aus­tralia which con­tin­ues to rapidly grow its mar­ket share cap­i­tal­is­ing on an in­creas­ing num­ber of Orig­i­nal Equip­ment ve­hi­cle fit­ments, strong tyre re­tailer re­la­tion­ships and a com­mit­ment to im­prov­ing the safety of ve­hi­cles driven on Aus­tralian roads.

The Con­ti­nen­tal Af­ter­mar­ket seg­ment con­tin­ues to dis­trib­ute the mar­ket lead­ing VDO brand of prod­ucts to key com­mer­cial and au­to­mo­tive com­pa­nies through­out New Zealand and Aus­tralia.

By se­cur­ing the em­ploy­ment of their highly skilled en­gi­neers and with the po­ten­tial for fur­ther growth, Con­ti­nen­tal Aus­tralia is con­fi­dent of a long term fu­ture for this in­no­va­tive com­pany.
