Diesel fuel injection industry leaders

-

For more than 30 years the team at Tauranga Diesel have been true believers – believers that diesel fuel injection provides the most efficient automotive propulsion, and believers that only the right way will do.

Managing director Peter Hughes says he and his team seek to ensure that whatever service customers receive from the firm, they are pleasantly surprised by the professionalism, the quality of service and the teams attention to detail.

By running its own busy auto repair and diagnostics centre, the firm has been well placed to identify the needs of other workshops in the rapidly changing world of diesel injection. The firm also invests in training a strong and diversified team of talented technicians, with some having been with the firm more than 20 years. Training occurs in NZ, in Melbourne and in the UK.

Time delays were identified as one of the biggest avoidable costs to a workshop. The diesel injection repair industry was traditionally reactive to the work sent in by outside workshops. Repairers ordered parts from wherever and waited before work could start. Delays arose from a few days to a few weeks.

To address this the firm introduced its Service Exchange programme. Here the firm stocks an ever increasing range of common rail and mechanical pumps and injectors all either new or fully reconditioned to OEM specifications.

Workshops from throughout NZ now use the service, thus ensuring minimum delay in completing vehicle or plant repairs. What’s more, the units are offered at a fixed price up to 30 percent below the cost of new components. Used units are returned in the same box received.

Time lost in diagnostic problems were also identified as a big cost to workshops. How often do diagnostic tools give readings that take us no closer to the REAL issue? Eventually, with lots of trial and error, and lots of searching the Internet we get it solved.

But Peter and his team recognised they’ve probably seen most things you’re seeing and often many times over. In response to the need, the firm now provides this knowledge for a fee which can be very modest given the time saved.

Being a certified Bosch Diesel Centre and authorised diesel fuel injection agents for Zexel, Delphi and Denso ,ensures the firm has access to the information, diagnostic equipment and parts needed.

The repair of modern diesel systems requires sophisticated, high quality and high precision test equipment, along with a high degree of cleanliness, and Tauranga Diesel Services is one of the first diesel fuel injection workshops in New Zealand to have installed a clean room.

This facility is capable of providing a pressurised air environment which is also filtered to 0.5 of a micron (the average human hair is 100 microns in diameter).

Tauranga Diesel also provides a turbocharger repair and replacement service, and is a specialist in advice, supply and fitting of all ARB 4 x 4 accessories.

Tauranga Diesel Services, winner of the Bosch Diesel Excellence Award for Oceana, is located at 79C Newton Street, Mount Maunganui. Phone 07 578 3320 or email peter@ taurangadiesel.co.nz.
