Dual control for Mercedes-Benz Econic

The world’s first dual control Mercedes-Benz Econic has been introduced in Australia.

The addition of a dual control version of the intelligently designed truck, with an additional steering wheel and column fitted to the left-hand side of the cabin, means more choice for Australian waste collection operators.

The new dual control Econic has a Euro VI rated engine, Electronic Stability Program and a special lowentry cab design with visibility superior to that of traditional trucks. No other truck in the class has all three features.

Mercedes-Benz trucks in Worth, Germany, developed the unique Econic model in response to interest from Australian operators who were impressed by the innovative design of the Econic truck, but required a dual control system.

Dual control allows Australian drivers to control the vehicle from the side of the cab closest to the kerb

and enables a better view when picking up bins using a side loader system.

The Econic uses a 7.7-litre diesel engine with 223kW that meets Euro VI emission standards and delivers a reduction of emissions and particulate matter by up to 90 percent compared to the Euro V engine. It is linked up to a six-speed Allison fully automatic transmission.

Its cabin not only complies with the European ECE-R29 crash test regulations, but also features the largest possible panoramic windows for excellent visibility around the truck. This is especially important in tight suburban streets, where waste collection trucks often encounter parked cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

The Econic not only has ESP, but an electronic braking system and ABS.

It features air suspension for all axles and a suspended driver’s seat on both sides of the cabin.
