Workshop for young writers

-

International award-winning author Anna Mackenzie is holding a workshop for young writers on Friday, October, 12 at 10am at the Hastings City Art Gallery.

From character development to narrative arc, Anna will share writing tools and techniques to help young writers ‘find their voice’.

Anna says often what a young writer needs is the perspective and direction that an outside viewpoint gives.

“In this workshop I’ll be aiming to show each young writer the way forward with their work.”

As an internationally successful writer of awardwinning contemporary, historic and speculative fiction, Anna is qualified to provide this viewpoint and direction for young writers.

Her books are published by industry giant Penguin Random House.

She also edits magazines, teaches creative writing and mentors aspiring writers.

Her nine titles have won an NZ Honour Award, a Sir Julius Vogel Award, a White Raven award in Germany and seven Notable Book Awards.

She is vice-president of the New Zealand Society of Authors.

Former Karamu High School librarian Jan Clothier says she has seen Anna’s high school student creative writing workshops in action.

“They’re fantastic and the participants go away buzzing.”

Anna’s writing students have previously won the BNZ Katherine Mansfield award, Sunday Star Times and the NZSA Central Districts Short Story competitions.

Anna is also running workshops for adult writers during the Harcourts Hawke’s Bay Arts Festival.
