Cricket World Cup

-

Accolades to Gavin Larsen (NZ Cricket) and Richard Hayward (Nelson Cricket) for a sublime effort hosting Cricket World Cup matches in our town. The crowds equalled or bettered gates at all other provincial towns, and our facilities, ground and wicket were as good as any, including the big cities.

The lone dissenter, Steve Cross (Letters, March 2), would not have been happy no matter what, accusing the ICC of deceit, and suggesting that scratching his cat would get more hits on social media than the CWC.

The Nelson City Council, in particular Rachel Reese and the late Colin Aitken, are to be congratulated for their vision and support of Saxton Oval, a venue we will be proud of for generations.

Anyone wishing to make a complaint to the New Zealand Press Council should first put it in writing to the editor. District Council, for sticking to your guns. Schools and alcohol are not a good mix, and the applicants were too late with their application, and should have been turned down on both counts.

Damien O’Connor, your great discontent over so many issues is leading you to a betrayal of your constituents.

We welcome the views of readers. Letters to the editor should be no more than 200 words.
