Lee slips to finish sixth

- GOLF

Danny Lee has missed an opportunity to better his previous best finish on the PGA Tour this season.

The Kiwi golfer, who was only two shots off the lead heading into the final day at the Dean and DeLuca Invitational in Fort Worth, carded an even-par score of 70 yesterday to finish three shots behind winner, American Kevin Kisner.

Kisner birdied the first three holes on the back nine as he shot a 4-under 66 to secure just his second career PGA Tour victory in 148 starts.

He finished one stroke ahead of defending champion Jordan Spieth, Sean O’Hair and Jon Rahm.

Lee finished 7-under for the tournament in sixth place, unable to replicate the form that saw him make big strides up the leaderboard after round two.

Back-to-back birdies on holes 16 and 17 saw Lee make a late surge on Monday but it wasn’t enough to lift himself back into contention after bogeying holes two, five and 12.

Lee tied for fifth at the Byron Nelson Classic last week, which remains his best result of the season.
