Marist late to final, lose to Moutere
Moutere women’s rugby team are Tasman champions after overpowering Nelson’s Marist 37-5 at Lansdowne Park on Saturday.
A late arrival by Marist, after bus issues, meant the game was delayed and transferred to Lansdowne Park 6, where an enthusiastic crowd offered the two teams plenty of encouragement. The Magpies, top qualifiers for the decider, took it to their Nelson rivals from the outset.
Outstanding halfback Rosie Buchanan-Brown opened the scoring early in the first spell after a period of concerted pressure, with hard-charging prop Kelly Couper and skilful No 8 Niska Scott also picking up first half tries to give their side a 15-0 advantage at the break.
