Pinkerton upstages series leader
Some red-hot battles warmed up a cool, crisp morning when Kartsport Nelson contested round five of their club points championship in Redwoods Valley on Sunday.
David Pinkerton, racing in the Briggs Light class, outdrove the championship leader Tony Dyer to take the penultimate round win and move a couple of places up the leader board. Carey Burr rounded out the podium in third.
Jason Richards had a back to back round win in the Briggs Heavy class from Nick Stilborn and Ryan Beattie was hot on their heels in third.
In the Rotax Heavy class, Kevin Barker put a stop to Bryce Borlase’s winning streak after Borlase had won the first four rounds.
Barker won the round from Borlase and Duncan Barrett was third on his return to karting following his roll over at the Sunbelts in June.
Ben Stilborn returned back to the top step in the Rotax Light class ahead of Kyle Rankin with Kennedy Stratford in third.
The racing in the Cadet Rok class was great to watch with battles happening throughout the field. Up and coming telnet Lochiel McGregor put a lot of pressure on Ollie Workman but it was Workman that managed to take the win over McGregor. Marlborough driver Arthur Brougham finished in third.
The battles were tight between Bo Hill and and Josh Bradley in the Vortex Mini Rok class with Hill taking the round win and Louise Gridley rounding out the podium.
Christchurch racer Dominic Robertson won all but one of the heats in the Junior Rotax class with Sam Lightowlers second and Kayden Richards third.
The next meeting in Nelson is the two-day Jason Richards Grand Prix on September 8-9.
