Two more titles for dominant Bellis

Lloyd Bellis skipped his Stoke team to a 15-4 win over Jean McKenzie’s Club Waimea four in Sunday’s Nelson Building Society Golden Fours indoor bowls final.

Bellis’ team of Neville Forsyth, Rhonda Bellis and Diane Grooby held the upper hand throughout the final and never allowed McKenzie’s team of Mary Jordan, Kevin McKenzie and Phil Jordan into the match.

They were among the 14 entries, with five teams qualifying for sudden death post section play.

In one semifinal, Bellis beat the Hope team of Bill Hart, Dale Burrell, Tom Jessop and Eric Peterson, while McKenzie beat Monica Kennedy’s team of John Kenmare, Leona Ellis and Lou Benbrook in the other.

Meanwhile in the plate event for nonqualifi­ers, Nathan Della Bosca, Lewis Della Bosca, Cliff de Malmanche and Diana Hemopo easily beat Wakapuaka’s Denise Powick, Shirley Deerness, Les Sillifant and Gail Sillifant 17-5 in the final.

Golden Bay-Motueka’s Greg Edwards and Colleen King had narrowly beaten their Golden Bay-Motueka team-mates Ron and Rae Inglis 10-7 in the previous day’s Golden Pairs final.

With 12 of the 28 teams qualifying for post section play, the Inglis’ beat Club Waimea’s Monica Kennedy and John Kenmare in one semifinal, while Edwards and King beat Club Waimea’s Nathan Della Bosca and Cliff de Malmanche in the other.

In the plate event, Hope’s Kerry Moffat and Ron Green beat Club Waimea’s Jean McKenzie and Mary Jordan 13-5.

Lloyd and Rhonda Bellis also remained unbeaten, winning all five games to win the recent Stoke 2-4-2 Pairs title at the Stoke Stadium. Bev Boucher and Vonnie Turipa were second with 4.5 wins and Barry Beams and Neville Forsyth were third with four.

This week’s action kicks off with the Nelson Interclub Sixes on Saturday and Sunday, both days starting at the Stoke Bowls Stadium at 10am.
