Lacking contrition
I would be more supportive of Green co-leader Metiria Turei if she showed a little humble contrition alongside her justifications for her 25-year-old youthful welfare and electoral rorts/frauds.
Who of us hasn’t done one or two illegal acts – for the best of reasons - as young adults?
A forthright genuine apology from the start and within every media interview since, for (twice) breaking the law, might have avoided the increasingly deep hole she has dug for herself and the Green Party.
Her youthful indiscretions are not capital offences deserving of parliamentary resignation.
If they are, why then did John Key for similarly dubiously rorting the electoral act by living in Parnell while using his wealth to gain a false residency to enable him to vote in his Helensville electorate, and Bill English for likewise taking dubious advantage of lax rules surrounding tax-payer subsiding of MPs’ housing allowances, not pay a similar political penalty?
Its Turei’s arrogant lack of contrition for breaking the law – whether an ass or not – not her indiscretions, which makes her untrustworthy for holding high office. yodeling something very different.
Nelsust’s ‘‘perspective,’’ articulated so tiringly, so often, by Lindsay and his ilk, pointedly ignores Nelson’s exploding population and increased traffic.
Nelsust’s impractical handwringers can Google all they like, but the inescapable fact remains Nelson needs decisive Southern Link action, right now, to resolve its otherwise insurmountable, worsening problem.
