Art expo ready to deliver on expectations

-

Art Expo Nelson is returning to the Trafalgar Centre this weekend for the first time in four years.

Organiser Nic Foster says the newly revamped venue will offer ‘‘a contemporary backdrop’’ for the artworks on sale.

‘‘It’s almost like we’re going in to a whole new venue because of the amount of changes they’ve made. It’s looking really fresh and modern and we are excited for our artists to have such a contemporary backdrop to show off the artworks.’’

For the first time, Foster says they will be offering free delivery of artworks to locals who cycle or walk to the show.

‘‘We wanted to encourage people who live in Nelson city to cycle or walk to the expo this year.

‘‘A lot of people probably take the car because they’re planning to buy new art, but we wanted to make it easier for them to come here without a vehicle.

‘‘We think it will make for a nice combo of art, exercise, culture and coffee.’’

Art Expo Nelson is open from 10am today, tomorrow and Sunday.

The art show is now in its sixth year and has over 1000 artworks for sale by more than 100 New Zealand artists.

Art Expo Nelson has received sponsorship funding for this year’s event from the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, which is funded by the Nelson City Council.
