Home and garden ideas on display at show

- SARA MEIJ

For Alex Wall, the Nelson Home and Garden Show is a way to connect with his customers.

The sales and marketing for Kina Beach Vineyard Wine said had a stall at the show last year and has returned for a second year because ‘‘Nelsonians are so connected to our brand’’.

He said it was handy for them to attend because their wines were not readily available and their cellar door was only open on appointment.

Barrels Art NZ owner Claudio Chaves makes seats, tables and dog beds by hand from retired wine barrels.

‘‘Everything is made from wine barrels and second hand materials, I bring them back to life.’’

He said he came to the show with the hopes of selling some products, and he reached that goal on the first day by selling a $1000 set of four chairs and a table.

Event organiser Josh Shanley said more than 180 businesses had stalls at the three day show, which runs until tomorrow .

He said visitors could expect ‘‘previews of what’s new’’ in landscaping and gardening, outdoor furniture, kitchens, bathrooms, solar energy, building, renovating and much more.

This year the Nelson Home and Garden Show will have 2015 The Block NZ people’s choice award winners Cat Glass and Jeremy Hill visit.

Glass will judge an interior design competition today and, along with Hill, will hold a discussion tomorrow at 12.30pm on The Block NZ Inside Story’ where they will both be joined by The Block’s resident builder Peter Wolfkamp.

‘‘The show will be packed with other industry professionals too, so we really encourage people to make the most of all the on-site expertise,’’ he said.

The show is on until tomorrow at Saxton Stadium.
