Invitation to women to give golf a go

- GOLF

Nelson women and their partners, family and friends are invited to give golf a go at an open day at the Waahi Taakaro Golf Course on Sunday.

It is part of the She Loves Golf campaign being run by NZ Golf this month to boost the number of women playing the game.

The campaign is backed by New Zealand’s champion golfer Lydia Ko and other celebrities, including Toni Street, Laura McGoldrick, Gemma McCaw, Jamie Curry, Matilda Rice and Daisy Dagg.

It aims to make golf fun to play by relaxing the rules around playing and what to wear on the course.

The free open day at Waahi Taakaro in the Maitai Valley runs from 10am to noon on Sunday and is designed to give women a taste of the game.

There will be an opportunity to use the putting and practice facilities, with club members on hand to give basic tips and information and to accompany them onto the course for a few holes.

All equipment is provided and there will be giveaway prizes.

For those wanting to learn more about how to play golf there will be the chance to sign up for group coaching lessons at discounted rates.

To register or for more information contact Gordon Davidson at Waahi Taakaro Golf Club by emailing waahitaakaro@xtra.co.nz or ringing 548 7771 or contact waahitaakaroproshop@golf.co.nz or 548 7301 or just turn up on the day.
