Police arrest teen girl after alleged aggravated robbery

-

A 14-year-old girl has been arrested in connection to an alleged aggravated robbery in a Nelson car park on Saturday evening.

Sergeant Charlie Parfitt, of Nelson police, said the girl was arrested on Monday and appeared in the Nelson Youth Court.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested earlier and charged with aggravated robbery.

He was due to appear today in the Nelson Youth Court.

Some members of the public had come forward with information following a police appeal for witnesses to the incident involving two groups of youths – a group of four people and a larger group – at Montgomery Square car park about 8.20pm on Saturday.

Parfitt said it was alleged the group of four youths had been assaulted by the larger group and some clothing had been taken. The groups did not know each other.

‘‘It appears that the offending group initiated what occurred between the two groups,’’ he said. ‘‘It escalated from there.’’

Two youths from the group of four suffered facial injuries and were taken to Nelson Hospital. It was believed they were treated and discharged the same evening. Police remained in contact with the pair and their families, Parfitt said.

An item of clothing had been recovered and police inquiries were continuing.

Anyone else with further information was urged to contact Nelson police on (03) 546 3840 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
