Hutson ace for Harbour

- GOLF

North Harbour have edged Auckland to become the men’s interprovincial golf champions for 2017.

They won the final at Mangawhai Golf Club 3-2, with player of the tournament Mark Hutson claiming the final point late on Saturday afternoon.

Harbour finished with a perfect eight-from-eight record, and are the national champions for the first time since 2005.

Hutson has been part of Harbour’s team for four years, and was very proud of his team’s performance.

‘‘It’s pretty awesome, the boys have done a fantastic job and haven’t lost a game all week, I couldn’t be more happy for them,’’ he said.

‘‘It feels really cool to be part of a team, golf is such an individual sport so to do this with all my mates feels great.’’

The interprovincial win caps off a breakthrough year for Hutson, the reigning national stroke play champion.

‘‘It’s been a busy year,’’ he said. ‘‘It’s been an awesome ride to be honest and after a few career highlights. I am looking forward to a little rest.’’

Another huge contributor for North Harbour’s was number five Jake Lee, who only lost once during the week and showed his class with a 5&4 victory in the final where he was an incredible sevenunder through just 14 holes.

Auckland’s 22 year wait for a second title carries on.
