New roast shop meats with warm welcome

-

Nelson woman, Vanessa Richardson, wonders if someone has been watching over her and her husband, Bruce.

The couple have been overwhelmed by the support of local people, which has helped them get their new roast food business off the ground.

The upmarket takeaway at the junction of Russell St and Haven Rd, ‘‘Get Ready Roasted’’, which sells hot roast sandwiches and meals, opened it doors on Monday

The couple has been flat out since then.

‘‘Even before opening, people were just coming, in coming, in coming in,’’ Vanessa said.

The Richardsons discovered that roast was a growing niche market that was lacking in Nelson.

‘‘Vanessa did her homework and we realised that the roast busi- ness is a growing one, people are wanting to go back to the basics,’’ Bruce said.

‘‘This is back to what mumused to cook, wholesome meat, potatoes and a salad.’’

The new venture been an eyeopener for the couple, with neither having worked in the hospitality industry before.

Vanessa has spent many years in the beauty industry in Nelson, while Bruce worked for the last 14 years as an engineer for the oil and gas industry in Australia.

After realising Bruce was spending too much time away from home, they decided to look for something they could both do here together

‘‘It’s full on, but we’re prepared to do the hard graft ... we’ve had a couple of days where we learnt a lot,’’ Vanessa laughed.
