Preserve the Springs

-

The TDC submission on the proposed Water Conservation Order for Te Waikoropupu Springs is disingenuous. ( Nelson Mail 23/3/18).

Claiming that the Springs can no longer be nominated as ‘‘natural state’’ because of previous & current human interference in the environs, is no excuse to refuse preservation from now onwards.

Every other natural asset in New Zealand has been ‘‘modified’’ with usage, and so many, to the point of degradation.

Do we wait until the Springs are murky before we say ‘‘Oops’’?

Have no lessons been learned about irreversibility from rivers already too polluted for swimming or fishing?

Does the damage, caused by forestry slash planted on the known unstable Separation Point Granite soils, not shout loud enough?

Our Council should be actively taking an environmental protectionist stance when considering permitting any request from private enterprise.

Golden Bay relies heavily on the tourism dollar.

Our Te Waikoropupu Springs, an international gem, is a drawcard and deserves ultimate protection.

Be with us on April 5th at Tasman District Council chambers in Richmond, when we present our petition asking for this.

The almost 13,000 signatories’ wishes shouldn’t be ignored. lawyers, economists, financial speculators and manipulators, and commentators. Criminals can waste a lot of their productive time extracting money without creating. Corruption and fraud do not create wealth. Many people feel that their work is worthless and not creative. It depresses them.

Our economic system carries a lot of dead weight. Judging by results our economic system needs a new paradigm.
