Ask, and Younis will deliver

-

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has filmed a training video for a young Kiwi fan, teaching him the cover drive and cut shot.

The 40-year-old batting great received a letter from Felix Anderson, a young New Zealand cricketer, praising his batting and asking for some advice on playing two of the most difficult shots in the game.

While Felix sent the letter when he was 10, and it took two years to end up at Younis’ hands, the Pakistani star was quick to respond.

He promised to make a short video in April, after reading the letter, and delivered it with an example of how to play two textbook cricket shots.

In the letter, Felix said Younis was ‘‘one of my biggest heroes’’.

‘‘Your technique is beautiful to watch. How perfect your cover drive is, or how well your cut shot it times. Your 318 against Sri Lanka was incredible to watch.’’

Felix said Khan had inspired him to try to play professional cricket and to bat at 3, before asking for some batting advice and drawing a picture of Younis saluting, bat raised.

Younis’ response included a two-minute video explaining how to play those two shots, while thanking the fan for the support.

You could pick worse people to get coaching advice from than a man with 10,099 test runs.
