Kiwis prop unsure on Denver test

-

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves says he’ll hold off on whether to make himself available for the Kiwis’ test in Denver next month.

The Roosters prop was at his inyour-face best in the 32-0 win over the Warriors in Auckland on Saturday.

When Waerea-Hargreaves is playing like this, he’s one of the most dominant front rowers in the game and would be invaluable against the likes of Sam Burgess and James Graham in the test against England on June 24.

However, Waerea-Hargreaves says he’s unsure whether he’ll make himself available at this stage.

‘‘I’ll make that call if the opportunity comes,’’ Waerea-Hargreaves said. ‘‘At the moment, I’m just trying to do my job at the club and do it well.’’

Roosters coach Trent Robinson told Stuff on Friday that he’s against the timing of the Denver test and it should be played at the end of the season.

Robinson said he’ll leave it up to the players to decide if they want to play in the test, but he is concerned about the short turnaround between the test and their game against the Storm in Ade- laide the following Friday.

‘‘There’s a bit of thought there,’’ Waerea-Hargreaves said. ‘‘First and foremost, I’ve got to continue doing my job here at the club and do it well.

‘‘There is a lot going on with Madge [Michael Maguire] now and it’s up to him and the selectors.

‘‘I’ve got to have my head down and backside up, just do my job well and do it consistently each week.’’

Waerea-Hargreaves feels it was a great move by the NZRL to appoint Maguire as the new Kiwis coach and feels the team will benefit from someone who has had success in the English Super League and the NRL.

‘‘He demands success and with what he’s done in the past, I’m really excited to have him on board,’’ Waerea-Hargreaves said.
