GE criticism of burger
Air New Zealand is rejecting a suggestion that the vegetarian Impossible Burger it serves on some flights might breach food safety standards. GE Free New Zealand says that heme, the ingredient supplying the burger’s meat effect, is derived from a yeast genetically engineered with a soy protein. The US Food and Drug Administration has not established that the soy is safe – or unsafe. An Air New Zealand spokeswoman said Impossible Foods was fully compliant with all FDA regulations and had conducted rigorous testing of the product.
