Fox still hopeful

-

Ryan Fox kept himself in with an outside shot at the Irish Open title after South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen moved in to place one hand on the trophy. Van Rooyen strung together rounds of 65 and 66 to open up a four-shot lead over Fox and Sweden’s Joachim Lagergren heading into the final round at Ballyliffin Golf Club. New Zealander Fox set the pace for the first half of the tournament but two bogeys on his front nine in the third round helped van Rooyen slip away, even as Fox rallied late to sign for a two-under 70. ‘‘It was a bit of a frustrating day. I felt like I drove it really, really good and gave myself a lot of chances and the putts didn’t drop. I had a couple of poor wedge shots which didn’t help things,’’ Fox said on the European Tour’s website.
