Council spending

-

I read with interest about the exploits of our local councils. First, the debacle NCC has got itself into over the new Stoke community centre. Surely common sense would suggest the lowest tender is not always the best, especially when reputable local companies are available? Next we have the TDC with the highly controversial Waimea dam, proposing to spend even more of ratepayers’ money, I guess to try to win over wavering councillors.

What is wrong with our local councils and councillors? Do they think that ratepayers are an endless supply of money? This attitude of ‘‘we know best and ratepayers will pay for it’’ has to stop.

To the councillors prepared to stand up for ratepayers: keep up the great work.
