Pither rates prospects
Coast for Erebus, but this year he’s also racing in the Dunlop Super2 development series and is currently second in the championship.
It’s similar to what Jamie Whincup’s co-driver Paul Dumbrell does and it allows Pither to keep up to speed with racing at Supercars level.
‘‘Three races isn’t a lot,’’ Pither said. ‘‘I wanted to do more racing and I was fortunate that the opportunity came up with GRM to not only do the enduros, but also the Dunlop series as well.’’
To finish fourth at last year’s Bathurst was an outstanding achievement for Wood and Pither, but one that went largely forgotten as their Erebus teammates David Reynolds and Luke Youlden won the race for the small team.
However, it remains one of Pither’s greatest achievements of his career.
‘‘Last year at Bathurst was a highlight for me,’’ he said.
‘‘Dale and the team did a great job and it put us in a position to be there at the end of the day.
‘‘I feel that we had that potential to finish up the pointy end, but there are so many ingredients that have to come together on the day to get the result.
‘‘Coming here this weekend, you’re always aiming high, but so long as I’m improving I’m happy. The main thing for me is to keep pushing, keep trying and if I can improve on last year’s result, we’ll be happy, but we will be aiming for the top step.’’
