What’s on in Nelson
❚ The Show Me Shorts Film Festival will be on at Nelson’s Suter Theatre tomorrow and Sunday at 7.30pm, with short films from New Zealand, France, Germany and Lebanon. Entry $17 general admission, $14 student, $12 senior/child.
❚ Milkthistle will be playing their unique style of cello-based indie folk-rock at Nelson’s Fairfield House tonight at 8pm. Tickets $20.
❚ The InsideOut Circus and Physical Theatre presents Mind Unravelled, a dance, circus and physical theatre performance with a rich musical score, at the Riverside Community Cultural Centre in Lower Moutere tonight and tomorrow at 8pm. ❚ Richard Adams will be displaying a series of new works at Red Gallery, 1 Bridge St, Nelson alongside a selection of ceramics by Mandy Gargiulo. Opening on November 8, 5.30pm-7pm.
❚ Caroline Bellamy’s solo exhibition Wild & Light, capturing New Zealand’s landscapes, will be on at Nelson’s Parker Gallery from November 20 to December 11.
❚ Brent Forbes’ exhibition Coastal is opening at Red Gallery on November 16 and running until December 7.
❚ Emma Moncrief is showing art and sculptures in her Dress Series 1 exhibition at Nelson City Framers, opening on November 8 and running until December 3.
❚ Nelson’s Chroma Chamber Choir is presenting a programme of Renaissance and Baroque choral music to celebrate the Advent season. Bach’s Magnificat will be performed at the Nelson School of Music Auditorium (NCMA) on November 18 at 2pm. Tickets $27 plus booking fee from NCMA or ticketdirect.co.nz.
❚ Nelson’s Quiet Dog Gallery has the Rosie Little solo exhibition Heading West: Golden Bay Landscapes until November 10.
❚ The EARTH-ED exhibition by Francie Heathfield and Dorothy Meharry is on at the Suter’s McKee Gallery until November 11.
❚ The Nelson Provincial Museum’s exhibition A Century of Saying Cheese runs until November 25.
❚ Los Galanes, a group of musicians playing Latin and French rhythms, will be playing at The Boathouse, Nelson on November 9 at 8pm. Fancy dress as Zorro, Don Diego de La Vega or Esperanza is encouraged, and the best dressed couple will win a $50 bar tab. Entry $10.
❚ Different musicians are performing lunchtime concerts at the NCMA every Thursday at 12.30pm.
❚ Walking on broken glass, swallowing fire and chainsaw juggling feature in 7 Deadly Stunts as performers David Ladderman and Lizzie Tollemache celebrate seven notorious stunts from carnival history, at the Playhouse Cafe and Theatre, Mahana on November 28 at 6pm.
