Saving the world with a car run on wine

He has made it his life’s work to save the planet, regularly attempting to convince the public to go environmen­tally friendly for the sake of the next generation.

The Prince of Wales also puts his money where his mouth is, running his car on surplus wine and his mother’s train on cooking oil.

His Aston Martin Volante which he has had since he was 21, has run on wine since 2008 after he demanded its makers find an alternativ­e fuel to petrol.

‘‘The engineers at Aston said, ‘Oh, it’ll ruin the whole thing’. I said, ‘Well I won’t drive it then’, so they got on with it and now they admit that it runs better and is more powerful on that fuel than it is on petrol. And also, it smells delicious.’’

The Royal Train, owned by the Queen and used by the prince seven or eight times a year, is also run on an unexpected fuel.
