How they rated

-

Damian McKenzie 8: Bagged a hat-trick of tries – two from following through grubber kicks. Plenty of space to counter-attack from the back, and not everything came off perfectly but he was ever-dangerous.

Jordie Barrett 9: Is this the All Blacks’ solution on the right wing? Superb showing in his first start in that position, scoring four tries.

Anton Lienert-Brown 7: Not the star of the show but ever-dependable with and without the ball. Got over the advantage line and beat a game-high seven defenders. Ngani Laumape 7: First action since hat-trick against Japan, and chance to put his stamp on No 12 jersey, but didn’t see all that much ball. Put on beautiful sidestep for team’s first try of second half.

Waisake Naholo 6: One big chance to push his case after falling out of favour, but just couldn’t get into the match.

Beauden Barrett 8: Much easier unlocking defence this week. Lovely left-foot grubber for McKenzie’s second try and pinpoint cross-kick for brother Jordie’s. Several comfortable high-ball takes at the back, brilliant anticipation to fly onto long lineout throw and speed 50 metres to dot down himself.

TJ Perenara 7: Some quicker and cleaner ball to play with this time out. Couple of patchy moments, including botched kickoff receipt.

Kieran Read 6: Quiet game from the skipper, who took on haka-leading duties. Couple of nice short balls which resulted in tries.

Ardie Savea 6: Won turnover inside 22m which led to team’s fourth try, otherwise mostly contained.

Vaea Fifita 9: Chance to make impression after being dropped for the Rugby Championship, and did it in style. Made several of his renowned rangy runsand led the team tackle count with 11.

Scott Barrett 5: Hands let him down a couple of times, apart from the nice loop-around pass ahead of opening try.

Patrick Tuipulotu 8: Second start of the year and did it well. Strong with ball and great hands providing several short balls to set attacks going.

Nepo Laulala 7: First start since Wales last year. Held up a mixed scrum display. One good charge, made a few tackles.

Dane Coles 8: A return to the Coles of old, with several of those attacking runs down the flanks, with two of them setting up tries. Snapped up loose ball a couple of times and threw well. No excusing one silly kick.

Ofa Tuungafasi 6: Part of scrum which conceded two free kicks but also had penalties their way. Got run around, bumped off and had a loose carry.

Reserves:

Nathan Harris 7: (60th min for Coles) Unbelievable leftfoot grubber on the run for Jordie Barrett’s hat-trick. Karl Tu’inukuafe 6: (60th min for Tuungafasi) Capped off stunning debut season by playing a stop-start final quarter.

Angus Ta’avao 6: (54th min for Laulala) A second test cap in the bank, copped a couple of penalties.

Brodie Retallick 7: (60th min for S Barrett) Got to work in tight then put on little swerve step and got into the clear with a run.

Dalton Papalii 7: (48th min for Savea) Second test outing and took the opportunity to get busy in his defensive work.

Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi 7:
