Paasi wants to remain a Warrior

- Jackson Thomas

Fresh from a bruising encounter against the Knights and with a pivotal clash against the Broncos looming, Agnatius Paasi was all smiles at training yesterday – and that’s because he is exactly where he wants to be.

Paasi, who has played 14 of the possible 16 matches this season, is off contract at the end of the year and is one of the few Warriors Macdonald lay on the ground with a fractured and dislocated ankle.

The latest incident came in the same week when three law firms signalled their intention to pursue class actions on behalf of former NRL players over the game’s handling of concussions.

NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg on Monday said the governing body took the issue of concussion seriously, a point reiterated by Annesley.

‘‘It is a very serious error in that we hold clubs accountable for dealing with suspected head injuries and we hold them accountable to a very high degree,’’ he said. ‘‘We know from the audio that they identified this, they just didn’t take the right action at the right time.’’ still without a deal for 2020.

But the former Titan said it’s a matter of if not when that he puts pen to paper, adding he wants to remain a Warrior for years to come.

‘‘We are in talks with the people upstairs here at the Warriors now, and just working through things so hopefully we can sort something soon,’’ he said.

‘‘I do want to stay here, I think I’m finally filling in my boots, so to speak. Being part of the leadership group this season has helped, I’m getting to know all the boys well and I’m enjoying leading the middles along with Leeson [Ah Mau].

‘‘This is where I want to be, for a few years yet.’’

Paasi is averaging over 100m a game this season and has scored two tries also, earning praise from team-mates and fans alike.
