Singh on song with Bayern

-

Sarpreet Singh says his first two months at Bayern Munich ‘‘couldn’t have gone better’’.

In an interview with FCBayern.com, the All Whites midfielder revealed his surprise at being integrated into the first team almost immediately after transferring from Wellington Phoenix on a three-year deal.

Having signed for Bayern Munich II, Singh said his initial plan was to get used to the German game in 3. Liga and simply take it ‘‘one step at a time’’.

However, he was given a chance to show his worth during the International Champions Cup and Audi Cup pre-season tournaments, playing against high-profile clubs such as Arsenal, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur.

Not looking out of place alongside the likes of Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski, Singh then sat on the bench for the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund and continues to train with the first team.

‘‘The move from the Australian league to Germany was a huge one,’’ Singh said.

‘‘I just wanted to get used to the game here and take it one step at a time. I didn’t think I’d find my feet so quickly, and it couldn’t have been expected that I’d get a chance with the first team after such a short period of time.

‘‘But I hoped it’d happen and I’m pleased I can pay back the trust. I saw the move to FC Bayern as a big chance that I really want to take advantage of.

‘‘The fact I was able to travel to the USA with the first team and was trusted to get plenty of playing time there and in the Audi Cup is amazing. I’m super happy.’’

Although he is back playing for the reserves now that Bayern have bolstered their squad by signing Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic and Michael Cuisance, Singh said his early taste of firstteam football had made him even more determined to kick on.

He said his next goal was to make his Bundesliga debut.

‘‘If I could make my Bundesliga debut that would be a dream. However, it’s all step by step.’’
