More Kiwi music gigs on the way
Three reasons for an evening out in Nelson are coming up, with Kiwi musicians ready to entertain.
Lawrence Arabia is performing a solo show in Nelson tonight, with nothing but his collection of pop songs, a piano and a small selection of instruments.
Christchurch singer-songwriter James Milne has been part of the Kiwi music scene for more than a decade and is bringing his Solo on Piano and Other Things tour to the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts.
Milne has enjoyed great success with his albums and songs since releasing his first album in 2006, while his talents have seen him co-write with Bic Runga and sing in the choir for Neil Finn’s Out of Silence album.
■ The Vorn Band are turning bad news into an opportunity for one final road trip together with the Last Chance to See tour.
The tour is bittersweet, with frontman Vaughan Colgan diagnosed with stage four melanoma.
Band member Nick Brown said they were keen to ‘‘get out about as much as possible, while we still can’’.
Wellington-born singer-songwriter Colgan has cranked out eight albums during his 20-year music career, with his indie/alternative rock music catching the eye of Nelson music reviewer Grant Smithies, who says Colgan is ‘‘a man capable of wringing great pop from the bleaker aspects of modern urban life’’.
■ Award-winning Kapiti singersongwriter Steph Casey is taking her indie-folk sounds to the road, and stopping in Golden Bay along the way.
Casey is back from a United States tour after releasing her second album The Seats in My Car. Her first album, 2013’s Whisper and Holler, received glowing international reviews and reached the top five of the NZIM charts.
■ Lawrence Arabia will be performing at the NCMA tonight at 8pm. Tickets $25 from NCMA or ticketdirect.co.nz.
■ Vorn are performing at the Playhouse, Mapua on November 21 at 8pm. Tickets $15 from undertheradar.co.nz.
