Punters bet on celebrity divorce
They’ve been engaged only two weeks, but one-time Golf Channel presenter Holly Sonders and professional gambler Vegas Dave are the subject of divorce predictions.
Multiple online sports betting sites are have started taking bets on aspects of their relationship.
Sonders, 32, was an accomplished junior golfer, winning the American Junior Golf Association and UCT National championship tournaments in 2001.
She was also a point guard at school, before joining Fox Sports as a golf broadcaster.
She was soon appointed to cover the United States Golf Association and National Football League (NFL), and to Golf Channel.
Punters can place money on the length of their marriage, their honeymoon destination and when (or if) Sonders gets pregnant.
Pro sports has offered many weird bets over the years, but these seem oddly personal.
Just as oddly, the American couple appeared to remain unoffended.
Vegas Dave – in real life Dave Oancea – proposed to the sports reporter/model in Cabo San Lucas this month, after a few weeks of dating.
He is a sports handicapper who made his fortune as a betting consultant wagering hundreds of thousands of dollars on sports events weekly.
In 2015, he bet $20,000 that Holly Holm would defeat Ronda Rousey in UFC 193 event. His win was the highest payout in UFC history.
In January, Oancea pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor after originally facing 19 felonies for allegedly using other people’s social security accounts to open accounts at casinos.
In May, he was ordered to stay out of Las Vegas sportsbooks for three years, had to do community service, and have gambling treatment.
So, will they get married?
Where will they honeymoon?
Vegas Dave could be in for a killing here, provided he’s in the know.
