Web page spells out SuperGold deals

- Skara Bohny

SuperGold discounts are now easier to find in Nelson, with a dedicated regional web page.

Minister for Seniors Tracey Martin was in Nelson to mark the start of a trialled update to the SuperGold website which will give card holders in Nelson and Manawatu/Whanganui their own dedicated homepage.

The app and website launched late last year, and since then the app has been downloaded 100,000 times and the website accessed over 300,000 times.

Martin said data from the website showed that while people were using the site, they were not searching for nearby deals that their SuperGold card could get them, so they could be missing out.

‘‘We want to specifically push the businesses in their area,’’ Martin said.

‘‘We know how many people have downloaded the app, and how many people are looking at the website. The next step is talking to the businesses, to find out how many cards are being used.’’

She said the regional push was also partially to dispel the ‘‘myth’’ that if an area had no major public transport infrastructure, then SuperGold cards weren’t useful for seniors.

One local business offering discounts is the Richmond NPD petrol station, which along with other stations around the South Island has offered discounts to SuperGold card holders since the launch of the cards.

NPD general manager Barry Sheridan said there was ‘‘strong support’’ for the discount, and anything that helped people find out about it was for the good.

‘‘We’ve got a strong following – there’s a lot of retirees here – and we really congratulate the Ministry of Social Development and Tracey Martin in pushing this,’’ he said.

‘‘When they first built the website and app, it didn’t have the functionality it does now. The ease of its use will make it a lot better, and getting the message out there is a big part of that.’’

The regional pages on the website launched yesterday, and will include options for people to subscribe to email notifications about SuperGold offers in their area.
