Teen driver denied bail after crash

-

A 14-year-old boy charged after a car he was driving with eight teenagers inside crashed into a fence and rolled in Canterbury has been denied bail. The teen, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared in the Youth Court in Christchurch yesterday. He is charged with failing to stop for police, five charges of dangerous driving causing injury, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and theft of petrol. His family were in court to support him. Defence counsel Colin Eason requested the boy be released on supported bail, but Judge Stephen O’Driscoll said it would be inappropriate to grant the teen bail at this stage. He was remanded in the custody of Oranga Tamariki until his next court appearance on July 14.
