Hoods Up: At the Nelson Classic Car Museum, today, 5pm-9pm, 150 cars with their hoods popped and doors open so people check out the motors and can sit inside to truly appreciate the cars. Featuring the Miss Classic Nelson Beauty pageant, aimed at pinup, vintage, retro and rockabilly lovers (7pm), adult $25, child $14. Big band and song at Māpua: Māpua Community Choir has teamed up with the Nelson Jazz Club Big Band to host a special evening of jazz tunes and songs of the 20th century. Māpua Community Hall, today at 7.30pm. Tickets available from Jared’s Fruit and Veg, Tasman General Store and at Eventbrite. Limited door sales will be available.

TeHītoriAo­tūroa: Learning from Nature:

A thought-provoking exhibition that delves into the world of birds, bones and bugs, showcasing natural history highlights from the Nelson Provincial Museum’s collection. Precious specimens on display range from majestic toroa (southern royal albatross) and snowy owls to New Zealand’s newest celebrity, the pūteketeke. Until May 5. Katoitoi– Response: Golden Bay/Mohua artists were asked to respond to an artist they have a strong preference for, or are akin to, and who has created a well-known work that represents or references Golden Bay/Mohua. Until April 30 at the Golden Bay Museum.

InakordWor­ld Music Choir: Inakord, an “open access” community world music choir, was establishe­d more than 20 years ago to fulfil a desire in the Motueka area for people to gather and sing together regularly. No auditions are required – just a love of singing for fun and friendship. Mondays, 7pm. Cost: $4 a session.

The Wairoa Bike Park: The Gorge, owned and operated by the Nelson Mountain Bike Club, is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Bookings are preferred.
