Tough Triton please Santa?
Mitsubishi unveiled its 2019 Triton in Thailand in early November and the company is positioning the truck as one of the most advanced utes in the segment, thanks to performance and safety upgrades.
The New Zealand release has been tipped for late December, and Mitsubishi New Zealand is anticipating the new vehicle will take the outgoing model’s 12.2 percent market share up by about 25 percent as a result of the enhancements and the at-the-time-unreleased-but delightfully-surprising promised pricing.
With a 40-year history behind it, the Triton is widely accepted as a proven valuefor-money proposition with a good reputation and a very loyal following.
The new Triton combines powerful styling with a robust profile, increased ground clearance and an enhanced 4WD system. Machine-finished 18" alloys on GLX-R and VRX models add an extra touch of quality.
Triton’s class-leading Super Select II 4WD system, available in top- of-the-range 4WD models, is now equipped with a new Off-road Mode featuring GRAVEL, MUD/ SNOW, SAND and ROCK settings. The system maximises all-terrain performance, and the addition of Hill Descent Control to Triton’s offroad armoury should go a long way to enhancing the appeal of the new generation Triton.
A new six-speed automatic is available, as is Forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning for the entry level GLX and GLX-R models. Top end VRX models gain blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, multi around view monitor, along with front and rear parking sensors.
VRX and GLX-R models also feature larger front brake discs and two pistons in each caliper for improved braking performance and greater safety overall.
