THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS
directed by F Gary Gray
Over 16 years and seven previous instalments, the Fast and the Furious franchise ballooned from a greasy, gasket-blowing B-movie of street racing and crime into an elaborate fiasco of explosions, ultra-powerful supercars and needlessly complicated plots. This time, Charlize Theron – in dreadlocks, no less – attempts to re-enact 007 picture Goldeneye by turning chief good guy Dom (Vin Diesel, still bald) against his former family. It’s trashy, ridiculous and takes itself far too seriously, but there’s something to be said for the tactile carnage it revels in.
