Catch of the Week

- Fiona Rae

THE WAY WE SOLD: Nga Taonga Sound & Vision archive has put together a collection of classic ads from the 1920s to the 2000s, beginning with a piece of film from 1921 promoting GA Coles’ Kapai shoe factory in Auckland. There are classics such as the “Dancing Cossacks” of 1975; the “Hat, Shirt, Bata Bullets” of 1978; and the Anchor family of the 1990s. Of course, “Bugger!” is there, as are Ches and Dale, the Crunchie train robbery, and the BASF “Dear John” ad of 1981: tinyurl.com/NZLSellebration.

THE MUSIC IN WE: May is New Zealand Music Month, which means two things. One, it’s nearly the middle of the year already; and two, there will be even more cool music stuff to do for the next four weeks. The place for info is the official website, nzmusicmonth.co.nz (Twitter: @nzmusicmonth). There is also plenty of news at the New Zealand Music Commission, nzmusic.org.nz. NZ On Screen has a NZ Music Month collection: tinyurl.com/NZLMusicMonth and there is a New Zealand music channel on YouTube: tinyurl.com/ NZLKiwiMusic.
