The mythology of rapper Tupac Shakur still has a hold 20-plus years after his unsolved murder – Wilderpeople’s Ricky Baker even named his dog after him. Arguably, that was a better cinematic tribute than this excruciatingly long biopic, which turns Shakur’s conflicted, angry, and occasionally criminal life into a flat, sanitised hip-hop soap opera. In the lead, Demetrius Shipp Jr sure looks the part but he’s there to put a face on a simplistic movie about a complicated figure. The Rickys of the world might feel their hero worship is wasted on this. Russell Baillie
